with Simon Cooper one of the few people still making and teaching this ancient craft
We will harvest hazel from our small woodland on the farm looking at what makes the perfect rod for splitting and weaving.
We will then process the hazel into strips and weave a beautiful basket like the ones pictures.
Hazel makes very strong and sturdy baskets and was traditionally used to carry heavier loads on horseback or harvesting tatties from the field.
We are very excited to learn this new skill and use and learn about another tree we have growing here.
No experience necesary but splitting the hazel can be hard work on your hands, send us an email if your unsure
Refreshments provided but please bring your own lunch or the Gorse Cafe will be open at Comrie Croft
